The competition was organized by Vrancea County Council & The Chamber of Architects. The theme of the competition requested a representative element for the history and the identity of Vrancea County. A totem will be placed on the main roads which traverse the borders of the county.
Vrancea County thought its history is at the confluences of the tree main regions of Romania: Moldavia, Wallachia and Transylvania. This region was font line during the wars, but also played an important role in the Union of Moldavia and Wallachia in 1859.
The purpose of the totem must go beyond communicating a change in the administrative territory. The geometry expresses the idea of tensioned confluences. Each part represents a region and the element is visible from distance and during the night is illuminated. The relation with the context is realized by the textures and materials. The copper speaks off the wine yards of Vrancea County, the textured concrete uses wood from the region. All the materials are vandal resistant.
The signals will be the witnesses of the history and also a symbol of overcoming the limits.
