#in the public space

Context.
Starting with the 2017 protests, the invisible network materialized in the public space through the people’s free manifestation. The virtual dimension of the cities became apparent when the conventional physical limit was crossed. In 1996, sociologist Manuel Castells published “The Rise of the Network Society” in which he presents the concept of the space of flows.
Concept.
The project #in the public space proposes a solution through which the informational layer becomes tangible in the public space. The reflective blue color is associated with social media channels and supports the idea of a virtual dimension. The painted elements permanently maintain the idea of social dialogue.
„#” – a dynamic and information symbol that helps unite common thoughts in the virtual environment, materializes and becomes the central element of the design. The mobile benches allow the participants to propose different scenarios, depending on the event that takes place. They serve as an experiment on the use of common amenities and, in their absence, the symbol “#” will preserve the memory of the events.
The forced movement generated by social media is highlighted through a strong gesture in the public space that contrasts the present state.
